Half ropes, often referred to as doubles because they are used in pairs, are lighter and thinner (typically 8-9mm) and are ideal for longer trad routes where the path may weave around features.
Using two ropes allows climbers to clip each rope into separate pieces of gear, creating two straighter lines that reduce rope drag. Additionally, half ropes facilitate full rope length retrievable abseils when tied together, allowing abseiling on both strands.
Edelrid has been crafting technical mountaineering gear such as carabiners, slings, harnesses, climbing rope, since the 1950s. After the family owners sold the company in 2001, Edelrid took a brief hiatus from the climbing market.
