The Black Diamond Technician is a lightweight approach shoe that is constructed around a fitted narrow last, with a flat forefoot for maximum contact. The Technician is aimed at technical climbing, ridgelines and 5th class scrambles, more than walking. It has a climbing specific low volume toe box with the toe rand covering the EVA in the forefoot to provide a stong platform for edging. With the overlapping toe rand there is a clean line for the edging platform. The forefoot has a socklike bootie tongue, making it easy to take on and off, with a breathable, durable EnduroKnit synthetic knit upper for temperature control. The lacing systems follows the whole way around the midsole in the lower shoe to give a tight midfoot fit that is really stable to give precision and preventing slip and roll. In the upper shoe the TPU midfoot strap and lace lock give extra security. The Black Diamond BlackLabel-Mountain rubber sole provides maximum grip on rock in all conditions, and is thinner in the forefoot for the sensitivity needed for smearing but with a cushioning EVA constuction midsole with a dual density for more padding. Finally, webbing loops give options to clip the shoes to your harness when the grade gets too tough and the climbing shoes need to be brought out.
The Black Diamond Technician is still very comfortable for approaching climbs but you can actually climb in this shoe. Bear in mind that these shoes are designed to be snug, if you have wide feet or want a casual fit, go up a half size.
