After successfully reducing the weight of the Guide, Petzl decided to use a similar technique to redesign the Reverso. By removing some of the aluminium from the sidewalls they have managed to reduce the weight to just 57g, which is 29% lighter than the Reverso 3 and 4% lighter than the Reverso 4. The 2019 model features better durability thanks to the rounded edges and a flatter top to help provide less wear.
The Petzl Reverso has V-shaped friction channels with asymmetrical lateral grooves adapt the friction to the type of rope for better control (ARC technology: braking control for twin, half and single dynamic ropes). It also has Reverso mode for belaying one or two seconds with assisted braking.
**Multipurpose and easy to use:**
- classic belay technique with both hands on the rope
- ropes glide smoothly through the device
- can be used for rappels
- Reverso mode for belaying one or two seconds; commonly used on multi-pitch climbs
- Independent and simultaneous belaying of two seconds in Reverso mode
- While belaying in Reverso mode, a carabiner placed in the release hole allows the belayer to give slack when the device is under tension
- Quick changeovers from Reverso mode to belaying the leader when climbing multi-pitch routes
**A single device for all rope types:**
- V-shaped friction grooves enable controlled braking
- compatible with dynamic single ropes 8.5 to 10.5 mm (11 mm possible, depending on the rope's suppleness)
- compatible with dynamic half ropes 7.1 to 9.2 mm
- compatible with dynamic twin ropes 6.9 to 9.2 mm
- increased friction on thin ropes
- friction is adapted for larger diameter ropes
- increases the locking pressure on the ropes in Reverso mode
**Asymmetrically grooved sidewalls:**
- increased braking power during a leader or top rope fall or while rappelling
- rope slides smoothly through device when taking up slack
**Rope friendly, allows for smooth belaying and rope handling:**
- will not kink the ropes regardless of the mode used
- separates the two strands of rope when belaying and rappelling
**Intuitive use:**
- Reverso mode aluminum attachment point is easy to identify
- keeper cable keeps the device from moving up the rope when belaying and reduces chances of losing the device
- Usage diagrams (standard belay and Reverso modes) engraved on device
**Durable and lightweight:**
- the rounded design of the rope slots limits wear and extends the life of the device
- minimalist construction
- hot-forged aluminum
- compact and lightweight: only 57 g
**Use with symmetrical locking carabiners (Am'D or WILLIAM) to maximize efficiency**
**Technical Specifications**
- Weight: 57 g
- Rope compatibility: single ropes 8.5 to10.5 mm, half ropes 7.1 to 9.2 mm, and twin ropes 6.9 to 9.2 mm
- Material(s): aluminum frame
- Certification(s): EN 15151-2, UIAA
