The Highlite is part of Western Mountaineering's ExtremeLite™ series of sleeping bags. It is the ideal choice if you are looking for a down-filled sleeping bag that is as lightweight and compressible as possible.
The Highlite weighs just 455g and will pack away into a 15 x 30cm stuff sack. It is rated to 2°C (35°F).
Western Mountaineering have achieved these impressive figures by using a Sewn-Thru & Baffled Box Construction. A box-type construction involves dividing the down fill into separate pockets. This type of construction can be a compromise in certain situations because the down insulation cannot be effective at the seams. However, the Western Mountaineering Highlite has baffled vertical seams. This means that 1.5 inch netting separates the inner and outer seams to ensure that the full insulating power of the 850+ goose down is realised.
Western Mountaineering have used their ExtremeLite shell fabric, which strikes a perfect balance between weight and durability. By combining this with a very efficient cut (ensuring the Highlite contains no unnecessary fabric) a total fabric weight of just 230g is achieved.
The Highlite uses a half-length coil zipper to ensure the sleeping bag is funtional whilst remaining warm.
